Ok, it has been almost two complete years I haven't updated this journal ._. but for the sake of updating, I'll take the influence map to post something about what I look for when drawing.
Without any doubt dragon ball is the most influencing series for my drawing style. Altough at first I was into mazinger z, and anything I drew was a robot, dragon ball definitely marked me and at first I tried to copy toriyama's style, that is, big -really big- eyes with very little pupils, big heads and spiky hairs and I'd try to draw goku a million times.
Over time I met more anime, like slayers and pokemon and then I started to like other styles, with more balanced eyes, not so.. uh.. "special" hairs, and other kind of characters (I admit in dragon ball there are not that different kinds of characters) with much more darker story plots (not the pokemon case).
I visually prefer a simplified style of drawing, not that extremely fancy eyes with lots of lights and shadows, and that's just what I liked the most of medabots. They have all of the anime, and still they keep a very simple style on everything, from hair, eyes, shadows, even the robots are simple and very deep.
And then I started to draw more simple, not the overpowered dragon ball style, but something "more realistic" if the word applies, because it's hard to look out the street and find a bunch of people all with gigantic muscles and hair that could take out your eyes in a spin. But still, it would be in a shounen style.
